Tips for Starting a Home Business

B. Todd Bailey founded Idaho-based Rise2Pro.com in 2015, which provides resources for home business entrepreneurs. As the company's visionary, B. Todd Bailey works with deliverables and tech-based services, and oversees all aspects of the Idaho enterprise, including recruitment, training, and team leadership.

Many home entrepreneurs start off on the wrong foot, making missteps that lead them to poor habits or failure in the long run. Those who want to avoid these traps should consider these tips:

Setting up a dedicated workspace and keeping a consistent schedule can go a long way. This keeps work organized and reduces the risk of distractions or temptations. Otherwise, family members, errands, and even naps can chip away at productivity.

Getting familiar with business tax laws is also a good idea. Businesses can adopt many different structures, and choosing the right one, with advice from a qualified professional, can help build profits in the long run.

Finally, a little bit of toughness goes a long way. Many businesses fail because their owners face one or two early setbacks and give up. Successful home entrepreneurship requires grit.

Making an Enemy Is a Selling Strategy

Since establishing Rise2Pro.com in Nampa, Idaho, Todd Bailey has been the visionary for its direct sales team. Since moving to Idaho, Todd Bailey has become more interested in the psychology of selling.

Salespeople have traditionally looked for new and better techniques for converting prospects into sales, and a good deal of research has gone into learning what makes people part with their hard-earned cash. According to a study by social psychologist Henri Tajfel, people respond well to being divided into groups and defining another group as an enemy.

While this may sound extreme, it’s not about attacking your competitors, but helping your customers define themselves. Apple used this strategy effectively when it created the Mac vs. PC campaign. A clothing company may try to indicate that it is strictly for athletes, and while this may discourage some consumers from buying its apparel, others may like the distinction and take the opportunity to define themselves by their purchase.

he Beginnings of Trout Unlimited

Though a resident of Idaho, Todd Bailey is a principal of Fortress Risk Management LLC in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Todd Bailey enjoys fishing in Idaho and donates to Trout Unlimited (TU), the national fish conservation organization.

United by their love of trout fishing, 16 anglers founded TU while meeting at George Griffith’s house near Grayling, Michigan, on the banks of the Au Sable River in 1959. Their primary concern was that the state was stocking its waterways with small hatchery fish that they called “cookie cutter trout.”

TU’s founders were convinced that Michigan’s trout streams could produce better fish naturally if the wild species were allowed to develop naturally. Led by the principle that if you “take care of the fish, . . . the . . . [fish] will take care of . . . [themselves],” TU took a science-based approach to the protection and preservation of healthy habitats for Michigan’s trout populations.

By 1963, TU had produced its initial policy statement and convinced the Michigan Department of Natural Resources to reduce its stocking program in favor of improving the natural habitat for wild trout.

Ducks Unlimited - Conserving Waterfowl and Wetlands

Through his company, Rise2Pro.com, Todd Bailey helps new entrepreneurs develop social media skills to promote their businesses. Rise2Pro.com operates out of Idaho but offers customers online classes and personal phone consultations. Away from his professional responsibilities, Todd Bailey supports various charities, including Ducks Unlimited (DU).

Established in 1937, DU is a private conservation organization that is devoted to protecting wetlands and waterfowl. DU employs a variety of tools to accomplish its mission, including land protection using conservation easements, acquisitions, and revolving lands strategy.

When a waterfowl habitat is at risk, DU may acquire the land to restore it and put conservation easements in place, thus preserving the resource for future generations. Easements place restrictions on the land to protect it. DU also employs revolving lands strategy when land with degraded habitats is placed on the market. The organization purchases the land, restores it, and puts easements in place for perpetual conservation.

Dealing with the Fear of Social Media Self-Promotion

A resident of Idaho, Todd Bailey studied at Brigham Young University, where he earned a master’s degree in accounting and a JD. Todd Bailey is the founder of Rise2Pro.com, which is based in Nampa, Idaho. This company works with small businesses and entrepreneurs to help build brand awareness and create effective social media marketing campaigns. One of the biggest hurdles that clients must sometimes overcome is a fear of online self-promotion.

Social media remains an incredible marketing tool since it provides an opportunity for reaching hundreds of thousands of people with the push of a few buttons. At the same time, putting information out there can leave entrepreneurs feeling vulnerable and worried about judgment or even rejection. Fear can keep people from using the tools they need to succeed, but these individuals can overcome fear by identifying its source. Some individuals may actually fear success, while others may be more focused on the possibility of failure. Naming the source of fear is the first step in overcoming it.

In the realm of marketing-based social media, entrepreneurs can overcome their fear with education. Understanding how these tools work removes much of the anxiety about creating a strategy. Rise2Pro offers a thorough social media training course that provides checklists, guides, and even templates and scripts for getting started.
